How to upgrade to iPhone 3.0 beta on iPhone or iPod

If you have completed download of iPhone 3.0 firmware then you can go for update or you can download iPhone 3.0 firmware from my post FREE Download iPhone 3.0 Beta Firmware both direct and rapidshare download link. Before we begin, let me warn you that it is an advanced level hack so please proceed ONLY if you have a clean understanding of what you are doing. I strongly recommend users with unlocked iPhones to wait till the iPhone Dev team releases a patch for the new firmware. Following procedure is applicable for those with a AT&T locked iPhone and all iPod Touch users.In this hack we will see installing iPhone 3.0 firmware both i iPod Touch and iPhone 2g/3g.


Installing iPhone 3.0 firmware on iPhone 2g/3g

1.Make sure to have downloaded the iPhone 3.0 beta firmware that relates to your iPhone (2G or 3G).
2.Extract the firmware IPSW to a folder.
3.Connect the iPhone to your computer.
4.Get the UDID registered on the iPhone Developer program.
5.Open iTunes and click Restore while holding the Shift key (for Windows) or Option key (for Mac).
6.Locate or browse to the firmware IPSW.
7.Wait for iTunes to unpackage and install the firmware.


Installing iPhone 3.0 firmware on iPod Touch

iPod Touch users are pretty safe in this case as there is no question of baseband like iPhone but their is still a catch which I shall be mentioning further below.
01.Once the firmware has been downloaded, extract the IPSW to a folder.
02.Connect the iPod Touch to your computer.
03.Get the UDID registered on the iPhone Developer program. (How to?)
04.Make sure to disconnect from Internet such that iTunes cannot communicate with the web.
05.Only then, open iTunes and click Restore while holding the Shift key (for Windows) or Option key (for Mac).
06.Locate or browse to the firmware IPSW.
07.Wait for iTunes to unpackage and install the firmware.

Note: Step-3 is optional for iPod Touch users but in case you decide not to get your UDID registered, you won’t be able to Sync with iTunes. The upgrade method is valid for both iPod Touch 1st Gen and 2nd Gen.

I again repeat - after upgrading to iPhone 3.0 beta, you might not be able to downgrade to firmware 2.2.1 later on so it is always a good choice to wait for the official release which is due in summer. iPod Touch users are always safe but I have already clearly warned the iPhone users to proceed at their own risk.

3. Locate the following key in the registry:

In the right-hand side of the window find an option called TransportBindName.
Double click that value, and then delete the default value, thus giving it a blank value.

Close Port 135:

1. Then you must now navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftOLE
2. You will see there is a String Value called: EnableDCOM
Set the value to: N (it should currently be Y)
3. Close the Registry Editor. Shutdown and Restart your computer.

Now you will see your problem is solved.

Brontok Virus came from Indonesia. It arrives as an attachment of e-mail named kangen.exe ("kangen" word itself means "I miss you so much"). When Brontok is first run, it copies itself to the user's application data directory. It then sets itself to start up with Windows, by creating a registry entry in the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run registry key. It disables the Windows Registry Editor (regedit.exe)and modifies Windows Explorer settings.
It removes the option of "Folder Options" in the Tools menu so that the hidden files, where it is concealed, are not easily accessible to the user. It also turns off Windows firewall. In some variants, when a window is found containing certain strings (such as "application data") in the window title, the computer reboots. User frustration also occurs when an address typed into Windows Explorer is blanked out before completion. Using its own mailing engine, it sends itself to email addresses it finds on the computer, even faking the own user's email address as the sender. The computer also restarts when trying to open DOS window (Command Prompt) in Windows and prevents user from downloading files. It also pop ups the default Web browser and loads a web page (HTML) which is located in the "My Pictures" (or on Windows Vista, "Pictures") folder. Start ur computer in safe mode with command prompt and type the followinf command to enable registry editor:-

reg delete HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\policies\system /v “DisableRegistryTools”

iPod Touch is one brilliant piece of gadget from the iPhone family that has every feature of the iPhone except for the phone and camera.
I will be getting an iPod Touch soon (most probably in the coming week) so I was doing some research about installing different applications on my iPod Touch and luckily I found a bunch of tips and tricks and some hacks that might come in handy to other iPod Touch owners.
Plus I shall also be discussing in one of my coming posts that why buying an iPod Touch is ten times better than buying an unlocked iPhone.

Install iPhone apps on iPod Touch

The process is really simple and assumes that you have a jailbroken iPod Touch. Jailbroken iPod Touch have the ability to install 3rd party applications. If your iPod Touch is not jailbroken already, please wait for my post about how to jailbreak an iPod Touch that I would be publishing soon after this.

Now to get the iPhone apps on your iPod Touch, just follow these steps:

1. Open install.app (installer application) from the home menu of your iPod Touch and tap "sources" on the bottom menu.

2. Tap edit and then tap add.

3. In the "Add Source" field type in http://repo.us.to "http://applerepo.com" or "http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml" and tap OK.

4. Tap done and then tap refresh.

5. Tap "Install" on the bottom menu of the Installer and scroll down with your finger until you see "iPhone 1.1.1 Apps for iPod Touch" and "iPhone 1.1.2 Apps for iPod Touch". Tap the folder corresponding your iPod Touch firmware version.

6. Once on the iPhone apps menu, Install the "Prep" packages before you install anything else. Once you've installed these then you can continue to install the rest of the iPhone apps onto your Touch.

7. After you've installed all of the iPhone packages/apps, then press the home button on your iPod so that it can reboot.

Thats it! You now have your iPhone applications on your iPod Touch.

Upon execution of the infected attachment, the worm copies itself as scanregw.exe in the Windows System folder.

winzip_tmp.exe and Rundll16.exe in Windows folder.
Update.exe, Winzip.exe, sample.zip and winzip_tmp.exe in Windows System folder.

The worm modifies registry at the following location to load itself during each startup.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It searches the network for shared folders with the following strings and copies winzip_tmp.exe in it.

To propagate itself, the worm scans the files having the following extensions and collects all the available email addresses from the infected system.

doc, xls, pdf, ppt, pps, mdb, mde, psd, zip, rar and dmp.

The worm mails itself to these addresses using its own SMTP engine.

It tries to disable some of the security related software.

It disables Mouse and Keyboard of the infected computer.

The worm carries a payload, which will be triggered on 3rd of every month. It alters all files having the following extensions in the compromised computer.

doc, xls, pdf, ppt, pps, mdb, mde, psd, zip, rar and dmp.
